Job Description:
This is an entry level GIS Analyst position in the GIS Department within Black & Veatch.Responsible for completion of moderately complex GIS processes including: data analysis, manipulation and mapping.Assists in the development of water & waste / storm water modeling, pipeline alignment studies and a wide variety of site selection, data compilation / analysis projects.Evaluates spatial data needs for projects which may include utilization of client data, acquisition of data from various sources and data creation / conversion.Assist in developing standards and automated processes through project work.Participates in resolving client issues and makes suggestions for improvements / enhancements. Contributes to all phases of GIS application and development.Ensures compliance with project requirements of accuracy / specifications for scope of service and overall quality.Assists in the preparation and review of analysis reports, specifications, manuals, scientific and environmental assessments and permit applications for specific elements of Black & Veatch projectsPrepares basic calculations following standard methods and principles uses in similar analyses (these activities are performed under the guidance of more experienced staff)Conducts literature surveysCompiles, evaluates and analyzes data to support preparation of reports and permit applicationsParticipates in field studies to collect primary baseline data for development projectsConducts field investigations of a limited scope for small projectsEstablishes and maintains required files to document references, consultations, analytical methods, calculations and rationale used in reaching conclusionsInitiates familiarization with Black & Veatch procedures
Job Requirements:
Degree in GIS-related field (or equivalent work experience).Entry level to 2years of GIS experience, preferably in a production environment.Must be proficient with ESRI ArcGIS suite of applications / extensions for map creation / data analysis, and use of Microsoft Office applicationsIndividuals must demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills.Able to prioritize tasks based on effort and deadlines.Must have strong time management, communication and teamwork skills and ability to work in a fast-paced GIS production environment.Enthusiastic about learning, pushing technical limits and finding new solutions.Must be able to work independently or on a project team.Other desired skills, include:Familiar with GIS applications for water distribution and wastewater collection systems for utilities.Experience with Asset Management / Maintenance Management / Work Order systems for utilities.Experience with use of ArcSDE, Model Builder, Python, or similar
