Job Description
Coordinates and leads the Parks and Recreation GIS services, personnel, and departmental projects in areas such as park land acquisition, park facility planning, recreation program planning, and park/building maintenance. Direct the creation, management, and maintenance of the departmental GIS inventory. Develop custom GIS models for project automation and quality control. Produce hardcopy and digital cartographic products of parks and recreation related data. Act as a liaison with various City departments, groups, organizations, affiliations, and higher education associations. Provide technical and user support to GIS personnel, as well as to other Parks and Recreation staff. Oversee, assign, and review assignments for both full time and part time GIS staff. An extensive working knowledge of the suite of ESRI ArcGIS software products, applications, and extensions is a must. The ideal candidate is self motivated, innovative, enjoys problem solving, and has strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Job Requirements
Bachelor's (4-year) college degree in geographic information systems, geography, planning, computer science, or equivalent required. Master's degree preferred. At least 3 years of experience working with Geographic Information Systems, GPS, and spatial analysis. GIS managerial experience is a plus. Applicants may substitute additional relevant experience for the required education. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have advanced knowledge of ArcGIS software, tools, extensions, models, theory, and applications; SDE, Access databases, MSOffice, VB Script, HTML and XML software. Knowledge of programming (VB Script, Python), surveying techniques, Microstation, and AutoCAD is a plus. A Valid NC Class "C" Driver's License.Closing Date: December 11, 2008
