Position Description:
JOB PURPOSE: Work as a part of a Geographic Information System (GIS) team to refine and update data.ESSENTIAL DUTIES:• Identifies all features of District facilities and documents their condition using ESRI ArcPad/GPS equipment/hand held computers, digital cameras, and laser gun unit. • Traverses by foot, off-road vehicle, or SUV, the entire length of channels to record the location of channel features and of non-District features such as gates, fences and bridges. • Observes, inspects, and documents physical condition of channel and basin features. • Works as a part of a GIS team and obtains data collection instructions including production goals and watershed information. • Operates, and performs user maintenance associated with a handheld computer, GPS, Laser, and digital camera equipment. • Operates District motor vehicle and a four wheel All Terrain Vehicle (ATV). • Duties may be added or deleted as the scope and nature of the job changes.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:• Requires high school graduate or equivalent. • Must be computer literate and possess knowledge of Windows O/S, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, and be familiar with MS Excel and Access. • Must have one to three years prior experience in outdoor related work such as land surveying crew, construction inspector or other similar type work. • Special consideration will be given for previous GPS or field related experience in the areas of data collection for public works or utility companies. • Preference will be given to completion of college coursework in any or all of the following: GIS, Geography, or Computer Science. • Must read and comprehend such written material as safety cautions/warnings, maps, traffic signs, operating instructions and work procedures. • Must be self-motivated and team oriented. • Must solve simple mathematical problems that may be required in normal work situations.

• Office equipment including telephone, computer and various software packages, database software, facsimile, 10-key calculator, photocopier, printer, and scanner.PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSURE:• Maximum exertion of up to 40 pounds.
• Requires frequent walking and driving on rough and uneven surfaces or ground such as sloping terrain, plowed or furrowed areas or construction sites.

• Requires frequent driving of a vehicle with standard controls and operation of an off-road vehicle.

• Approximately 85% of duties will be performed outdoors where there will be routine exposure to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture, air pollution, mists, vapors, fumes, wind, dust, and other pollutants.
• Vibration and/or noise in excess of 85 decibels.
• May be exposed to petroleum products including but not limited to oil, gasoline, grease, diesel, other fuels and lubricants.
• May be exposed to cement mixtures, curing compounds and fertilizers.
• Routine exposure to toxic plants such as poison ivy, poison oak, and other vegetation that may contain/emit allergens or other pollen compounds.
• May be exposed to snakes, wasps, bees, and other flying/walking insects.

• Approximately 15% of duties will be performed indoors, which is climate controlled with normal office environment including acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
