Position Summary:

Deloitte Services has an opening in their Petroleum Services Group which provides a number of reporting and analytical tools to the upstream petroleum industry, including PetroView, the leading industry desktop mapping and visualization tool. We are looking for an enthusiastic temporary Geographical Information System ("GIS") technician to provide support to the Houston office.

• The loading of regional spatial datasets into both enterprise and personal geodatabases (MapInfo, ArcGIS, ArcSDE)
• Validating and maintaining GIS data from various sources and formats - establishing meta data, spatial integrity and precision of data
• Undertake localised map production in coordination with the GIS team
• Providing technical support to clients in all aspects of the PetroView product suite and the underlying GIS platforms (MapInfo and ArcGIS suite)
• Helping to raise the profile of the group and Petroleum Service's capabilities through client support, dataset production and possible marketing events
• Have a first degree in Geography/Geology/GIS/Cartography or an equivalent vocational qualification
• Possess strong MapInfo and ESRI skills and confident working within challenging technical environments
• Experience working with ArcSDE and geo processing spatial data, with a strong attention to detail
• Have a desire to develop technical skills through the production of GIS datasets
• Exposure to the upstream oil industry will be of benefit, however this is not essential
• Be a team player as the role will involve working with different people within the group
• Be able to work on your own initiative and to tight deadlines
• Have good communication skills and a pragmatic approach to problem solving
• Salary dependent on level of experience.
